Principal's Message with Mr Ionn
Farewell to Year 6 Students
It was an absolute privilege, and a distinct pleasure, to address our departing students and share how proud I am of this group. They have displayed, on a daily basis, a sense of self-confidence, optimism, and a commitment to personal excellence, living and breathing our values to Believe Achieve and Succeed. Enjoy your new challenges at high school next year and continue to take every opportunity offered.
Holiday Message
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank the school community for their support and work in what was a very different year. Parents and carers, thank you for your continued support of our school.
Have a safe, relaxing break and remember school will start for all students on Tuesday, the 28th of January. I look forward to continuing our learning journey next year.
Have a safe and happy holiday and an enjoyable festive season.
Mark

Library Matters with Mrs Sutton & The Library Team
Thank you to all our families who have supported and purchased books through Scholastic Book Club this year. Our school earned rewards valued to $1314 worth of books, for our library. So grateful that we can continue to update some of our popular series of books using this money. Mrs Lakeman, we thank you too, for managing the Scholastic Book Club throughout the year.
Our Wynnum Library has a great summer reading program you might be keen on in the new year. Check out the information below…
Still time to give another search high and low for those 81 elusive library books. Thank you, Ms Sellars, for the time spent emailing parents with reminders of books still outstanding. (PS…if you find your books over the holidays pop them in your school bag for 2025!)
And finally, thank you to the splendid team of teachers who call G Block home…Ms Sellars, Mrs Lakeman and Mr Saker for keeping your fingers on all thing’s library and IT and for ensuring the facilities, equipment, our book collections and learning spaces are exciting, vibrant and running smoothly; to our Scientists and French linguist – Mrs Crowe, Mrs Brookes and Mr Henville for another simply grand year, we love working with you every day.
Happy holidays everyone and just keep reading Wynnum Warriors, for six glorious weeks…
P-2 Science with Mrs Crowe
2024 has been an absolutely fantastic year in the P-2 Science Lab. Every class filled the lab with investigative discussion, problem solving and inspirational thinking! Our final week was full of scientific learning!
Preps discovered how simple machines have changed the world. Our young scientists investigated models of the ‘Archimedes Screw’, pulleys, wheels, inclined planes, wedges and levers. No batteries, no electricity, no screens yet so many amazing things they could do with the first simple machines!
Year One and Two consolidated their learning through teamwork, working in groups on rotational stations including STEM Sets, coding challenges and explorations with magnetism.
Best wishes to all for a relaxing time with your children over the school holidays. Looking forward to 2025 Science with our inquisitive and enthusiastic Wynnum Warriors!
Young Writers Program
Congratulations to our Wynnum Young Writers. This year our students worked with the amazing Gregg Dreise to publish a book. The program was facilitated by Moreton Bay EEC and also provided a chance for our students to work with children from around the Bay. Congratulations to our authors!
Guidance Officer Message with Nathaly Manning
Dear WSS Community,
As the year comes to a close, it Is an excellent time to reflect on all we’ve accomplished together. From the exciting achievements in academics, arts, and sports, to the countless moments of personal growth and resilience, this year has truly been one to celebrate. The end of the school year brings a well-earned break and an opportunity to recharge for what lies ahead. However, as we head into the holidays, it’s important to remember that this time of year also requires us to prioritize our safety and well-being.
Staying Safe These Holidays
- Look Out for Each Other - Whether you’re spending time with family, meeting friends, or venturing out into the community, always be aware of those around you. A kind word, a listening ear, or a helping hand can make a world of difference to someone in need.
- Online Safety – Many of us will spend extra time online over the holidays. Be mindful of how you use social media and the internet—always think twice before sharing personal information and ensure your privacy settings are secure.
- Physical Safety – Whether it’s water safety at the beach or road safety while traveling, make sure to take appropriate precautions. Wear helmets, use seat belts, and stay alert in unfamiliar environments.
- Mental Well-Being – The holidays can bring a mix of emotions. Remember, it’s okay to feel overwhelmed or unsure at times. Reach out to someone you trust, whether it’s a family member, friend, or a helpline, if you need support.
- Make Time to Recharge – Holidays are also an opportunity to slow down, spend quality time with loved ones, and focus on activities that bring you joy and relaxation. Take a break from the rush of daily life and allow yourself time to recharge, reflect, and refocus for the year ahead.
To our students: Be proud of how far you’ve come this year. Your resilience, curiosity, and enthusiasm inspire us all. To our families: Thank you for your partnership and trust in supporting our school community.
To our staff: Your unwavering dedication makes everything we achieve together possible.
Celebrating Human Rights Day: Making a Difference Together
Human Rights Day, observed annually on December 10th, honors the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. This day reminds us of the fundamental rights and freedoms that belong to every person, regardless of race, gender, nationality, or belief. When human rights are ignored, the impact on individuals can be devastating—leading to poverty, discrimination, and loss of dignity. To prevent this, we must educate ourselves and others, speak up against injustice, and support initiatives that protect vulnerable groups. By taking action, we help create a society where everyone has the opportunity to live with freedom and equality.
As a school community, we can make a difference by embracing inclusivity, standing against injustice, and fostering respect for one another. Whether through acts of kindness, learning about global challenges, or volunteering for causes that promote equality, each of us has the power to contribute. Let’s take this opportunity to reflect on how we can champion human rights every day, ensuring a brighter, fairer future for all.
I wish you all a safe, restful, and joyful holiday season. I look forward to seeing everyone in the new year, ready to tackle new challenges and celebrate new successes.

Go 'Free Dress Day’
Student Council held their very last Student Council fundraiser for 2024. GIVE BACK DAY!
Students were asked to bring in a gold coin donation and come to school in their sun safe free dress.
We raised $613.70, making our 2024 total fundraising $3435.70.
Students were wowed with amazing fun filled activities in the auditorium throughout the day – music, inflatables, bubbles, as well as getting an ice block to cool down after all the running around.
A massive thankyou to Mr Smith and Mrs Corten for all their efforts leading up and during the event.
Please see attached some photos from Year 2's on the Student Council 'Give Back Day' event. The children had a blast.

To over 80 Play pals who promoted positive playtime during these last two terms, we say a huge thank you. Our Play Pals are students from Years 3-6 who volunteer their time during breaks to ensure our younger students have a happy time in the playground. They play games, encourage positive interactions and be on alert for students who may need someone to talk to. You are so appreciated.

Wynnum Wahoos - Wynnum Cup 2024 Summary
Two photos of our wonderful, happy and successful team at Wynnum Cup hosted by Wondall Heights State School.
Our swimmers did us proud by setting 6 Pool Records on their way to winning the cup.
Near the end of the day, after the thunder and lightning had finished and we just had rain coming down hard, the decision was taken to make the final 8x50M Relays just fun events.
As some other club's swimmers had already returned home due to the storms, I was very proud to see two Wahoos swimmers put their hands up to help other clubs field their relay teams and join the fun races. That's a testament to our club's spirit and culture.
Congratulations to all the swimmers.
This was the first Wynnum Cup for several of our team, so it was great for them to experience the spirit our club shows at carnivals.
Thank you to the parents who came yesterday, volunteered and cheered all the kids on in the rain. Bring on 2025. Wahoos accepts new enrolments for Term 1 with the fees halved for participating in the half season.
