Message from our Principal Mr Fehlhaber
I would like to thank the Wynnum State School community for the way that you have welcomed me into your school community. I have proudly shared my observations of your children as some of the most respectful and engaging young people that I have worked with. Thank you all for making my transition into Wynnum such a joyous experience.
It has been a busy start to term 3 with our year 6 students visiting Parliament House as well attending the Wynnum State High school musical. Our senior students showcased their respect and maturity during these visits, and we thank the staff who made this possible. Many of our students have been having success in touch football at the Yarrabilba Cup and South Queensland All Schools carnival. Many thanks to Mr Singleton for facilitating this success.
I would like to express my gratitude to everyone for the way they have supported the family of Declan Phillips, whose funeral was held last Friday. Thank you to the staff and families who joined us in representing the school as well as the tremendous support and love provided by the broader community.
A strong and positive parent-teacher relationship is key to student learning and engagement at school. Last Tuesday and Wednesday evenings saw hundreds of parents and students attend our parent-teacher interviews. Thank you to all that were able to attend and spend quality time sharing the progress of your children and considering the next steps in their learning. Your teachers appreciated the opportunity to work with you, celebrate success and collaborate with you.
School Opinion Survey- Reminder
Thank you to all of those who have already completed the Parent/Caregiver Survey. If you have not had a chance to complete the survey yet, please note that the online surveys will remain open until Friday, 22 August 2025. This is your opportunity to provide feedback about what our school does well and how we can improve.
To have your say, check your email for an invitation from the Department of Education titled School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2025.
Can’t find your invitation? If your family has more than one parent/caregiver, check that they haven’t received the invitation and/or check your junk email folder.
Wynnum Manly Leagues Club Community Grant
Thanks also to Mr Singleton for his successful application for a Wynnum Manly Leagues Club Community Grant. Wynnum State School was fortunate to receive $5000 for the continuing support of our successful touch football teams.

Kind regards
Len Fehlhaber
Principal

"Get ready for an adventure!
Book Week 2025 is almost here, well just 9 days away, with the theme …
Book an Adventure'
This year marks 80 years of celebrating Children's Book Week, so please join the excitement of getting costumes ready for our parade on Monday the 18th August in Mega Central. Our student council will also be supporting some fun-filled book-themed activities throughout the week.
Of course, we celebrate books every single day at our school, but Book Week highlights those books that have been shortlisted for National Awards and Book of the Year. We have purchased a number of the short-listed books to share with students and staff closer to Book Week.
So, as we adventure and travel across lands, time, let’s help our students get in the Book Week spirit and immersed in the world of reading and literature. …
Check out our flyer and some of our creative memories from the past…
Just keep reading…

P-3 Science with Mrs Crowe
Last Friday 25th July was ‘National Tree Day’ for schools. The display outside Junior Science Lab was full of young scientists and tree lovers during both play breaks.
Sensory investigations of a variety of fragrant leaves, flowers and leaves, such as ‘Lemon Myrtle’, ‘Lemon Teatree’, ‘Grevillea Snowflake’, ‘Zig Zag Wattle’ and ‘Davidson’s Plum’ from Mrs Crowe’s Garden, and ‘Banksia Serrata’ from our school garden which created much discussion about the features of trees and how they sustain us. Books, puzzles, bird toys and tree challenges kept everyone thinking about the importance of trees.
We also had eight special poster competition winners sharing their love of trees in very creative ways. Look at the winning entries and their happy smiles as they received their prizes!

CIRCLE OF SECURITY PARENTING (COSP™) PROGRAM – TERM 3, 2025
As parents do you ever struggle with managing challenging behaviour, big emotions and trying to figure out what your child really needs? Do you ask yourself are positive or negative reinforcements, rewards, punishments or consequences actually working? Or do you ever feel overwhelmed, judged and guilty for feeling not good enough?
We are excited to offer parents and caregivers a free opportunity to join the Circle of Security Parenting (COSP™) Program – a supportive and practical course designed to strengthen your relationship with your child.
This internationally acclaimed program helps parents better understand their child’s emotional needs, manage challenging behaviours, and build secure, healthy connections. Whether you're parenting toddlers or teens, the Circle of Security provides tools that make a lasting difference.
Spaces are limited – please contact your child/s class teacher to register your interest. Once you have registered someone from our well-being team will be in contact with you and provide more details.
Let’s work together to support stronger families and confident, connected kids!

Yarn/Wool Donation Request
This time next week, the Years 3-6 Wellbeing Connection Afternoons will be well underway. Students who have selected to join the Yarn Bombing Club will be busily learning to knit and crochet, in order to yarn bomb an area of the school. We already have some supplies, but if you have any unwanted yarn or unfinished knitting/crochet projects at home, your donation will be gratefully received and contribute to some amazing artwork! Contributions can be dropped off to Ms Connell via the front office.
