Message from our Principal Dr. Mark Ionn
As Term Two comes to an end, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our entire school community for a successful and fulfilling first half of the year. It’s been a term filled with growth, learning and shared achievements—both in and out of the classroom.
From academic milestones to creative performances, sporting triumphs to acts of kindness, we’ve seen our students really embrace our PBL journey, demonstrating resilience, curiosity, and community spirit. I’m proud of the way they’ve embraced challenges and supported one another.
To our dedicated teachers and staff: thank you for your tireless work and care. Your commitment continues to shape a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.
As we now pause for the winter break, I encourage everyone to take this time to rest, reconnect with family and friends, and recharge. Whether you're traveling, spending time at home, or simply enjoying a slower pace, I hope it’s a restorative and joyful time.
It has been a pleasure to take our new Acting Principal, Len Fehlhaber through a principal handover. He is looking forward to progressing our strategic work and is ready for all that lies ahead.
Wishing you a safe and restful winter break and a successful Semester Two.
Warm regards,
Mark
PBL Focus Week 9&10
Wynnum State School’s weeks 9 & 10 PBL focus is ‘We are safe when we keep our hands and feet to ourselves.’

P-3 Science with Mrs Crowe
Our eager Prep scientists worked carefully to construct “Waterproof Wonders”. Each Prep created a diagram displaying the waterproof materials they would use in their final product.
Our young chemists combined their chosen materials to create a “Waterproof Wonder”. I am sure all would have had so much fun testing their models at home in the shower, bath or outdoors under the hose! Enjoy the photos below of some of the very clever “Waterproof Wonders”!

Year Two investigated the ‘Density Experiment’ and discussed how emulsions work seeing the liquids mix or separate when testing different combinations of oil, water and detergent. Great predictions were made, and loud exclamations of wonderment and awe occurred, as each liquid combination was tested. Results were recorded in detail. Enjoy these photos!
Congratulations to PRBC, 3PC and 2AC for being awarded the Junior Science Warriors Award (Golden Microscope) for PBL this term.

Wishing everyone a great school holiday! Looking forward to investigating ‘Earth and Space Sciences’, with our very eager P-3 Wynnum Warrior scientists in Term Three!

Readers Cup
Last week two teams of Wynnum Warriors represented Wynnum State School in the Regional Readers Cup Competition held at Manly State School.
Readers Cup is a state-wide event where teams of students read sets of books and compete with other teams in their region to answer quiz questions. Readers Cup challenges student to read widely, work collaboratively and continue to develop a love of reading.
Our Year 5 and Year 6 teams represented Wynnum State School against 25 other teams, with our Year 5 team being award with 2nd place. Congratulations to all team members for working so hard and being fabulous representatives for Wynnum State School.

Girls Soccer Interschool Competition 2025
This year, our WSS soccer girls in Years 4, 5, 6, represented our school extremely well. Each Friday, our budding Matildas played against other schools and showed excellent sportsmanship, improved skills and heart-bursting enjoyment. A shout out to our Year 6 team who won their Semi Final in a penalty shootout, which took them to the Cluster Grand Final and saw them finish as gallant runners-up in a 2-1 battle to last second. A huge thank you to all the staff and supporters for making it possible and most of all...congrats to our players- well in girls!!!

Guidance Officer Message with Nathaly Manning
Dear parents and caregivers,
As Term 2 comes to a close, I’d like to thank all our parents, caregivers, and community members for your continued support throughout the term. We’ve shared in the challenges and the achievements, and it’s been a joy to witness the growth, effort, and resilience of our students.
Now is a perfect time to reflect and celebrate the progress made—whether it’s academic, social, or emotional. Every success, big or small, deserves recognition.
As we approach the school break, I encourage families to rest, reconnect, and enjoy some well-earned downtime. A good break can make all the difference in returning refreshed and ready for Term 3.

Prep Happenings

On Thursday, 17 July (Week 1 of Term 3), our Preps will be celebrating a very special milestone – 100 days of learning. During the week, students will participate in many different and fun learning activities that are related to the number 100.
Prep students are encouraged to dress up as if they are 100 years old. We have included some ideas to help Prep parents get started in planning what their child can wear.
During first break the Preps have the opportunity to play all types of games with the Student Council. Games such as duck duck goose, musical statues, hopscotch and What’s the Time Mr Wolf?
Our Student Council are looking forward to leading the Preps in some old-fashioned games at play time.

School Watch
The School Watch program encourages everyone to look out for and report any after-hours crime in our schools.
Empty schools can become targets for unlawful entry, arson, stealing, graffiti and property damage, especially during school holiday periods. This comes at a cost to the whole community and not just the financial cost of repairs.
The School Watch program is a partnership between the Department of Education and Protective Services Group, Queensland Police Service, providing a way for members of the community to report anything they see that is suspicious, even if it seems minor.
On average, more than 700 calls are made to School Watch every year, helping to keep our schools safe.
Look, Listen, Report. Call School Watch on 13 17 88.
If you see a crime in progress, call Triple Zero (000).
