Term 4 Week 10 - 10 December 2021
Principal's Message
Farewell to 2021
Every year is big in the life of a school and this year has been no exception. At our Celebration Ceremony this week, all participants witnessed a great celebration of learning and success. I thought the students did a remarkable job of bringing their best audience manners to this event: a long time for young people to sit – a long time even for us adults. A big congratulations to all award recipients. I absolutely loved the introduction of the ‘Ionn Warrior’ (and matching head dress). This was a very special moment for me personally and I look forward to wearing it on occasions and sharing the strong message associated with being a Wynnum Warrior. It was a pleasure to have Mrs Hadfield present on stage to mark this occasion and we again thank her for all her work in establishing this great school.
At Wynnum State School, we aim for and achieve high standards in all areas - academia, behaviour, sport, cultural and community pursuits. Our purpose is to create a caring, intelligent village of learners. Intelligence is about learning to be creative, democratic, healthy, eco aware and actioned, and informed. To grow and practise these intelligences, it takes all of us to working together to believe in our purpose, to make plans and work hard to achieve high standards of outcomes, and to celebrate when we succeed. It was clear to see the demonstrations of these combined attributes in all students, ensuring we develop into strong, resilient and intelligent citizens, both for today and for tomorrow.
All of what we achieve could not happen without the support of leaders, staff members, P&C, student leaders and school community. But most of all, it requires strategic leadership – this is a collaborative business – I am so fortunate to arrive into a strong and collegial leadership team.
I would like to take this opportunity to pay a tribute to our teaching and support staff at WSS. To our teachers, the impact you have on the lives of young people is immeasurable and powerful. Our support staff, in their numerous and varying roles, support this on a daily basis.
I am extremely humbled to be leading such a wonderful school and community. The finish line is now in sight and I am sure all in our community are looking forward to a well-deserved break.
Our strategic focus for 2022 centres on Clarity, Knowledge and Student engagement.
Farewell to Year 6 Students
It was an absolute privilege (and pleasure) to address our departing students and share the pride of all those present at the farewell, as we obseved the self-confidence, optimism, and commitment to personal excellence of our Year 6 cohort. Farewell to the Year 6’s: you certainly have made the most of 2021 and the opportunities that have been afforded you. I’m sure you’ll look back at your days at Wynnum State School with fond memories. Enjoy your new challenges at high school next year and continue to take every opportunity you can to Believe, Achieve and Suceed!
Holiday Message
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank the school community for their support and work in what was a very different year. Parents, thank you for your continued support of our school. Being adaptable to the ever-changing environment, being both teacher and parent for parts of the year and ensuring your child maintained a focus on what’s possible. We hope for a clear run in 2022 in terms of managing life with CoVid-19.
Have a safe, relaxing break and remember school will start for all students on Monday, the 24th January. I look forward to continuing our learning journey next year.
Have a safe and happy holiday and an enjoyable festive season.

Preps, Year 1 and Year 2 End of Year Celebration Waterslide
To say the children had fun is an understatement! Across Tuesday and Wednesday, our junior students slipped and slid away on inflatable waterslides to celebrate a fabulous year. There was so much action fun and laughter that even a couple of teachers couldn't resist having a turn. The words "This is awsesome!", "This is great!" and "This is so much fun!", rang out. We combined waterslides with outdoor play and finished with some refreshing icypoles and a movie to relax. A great time was had by all!
STEM Olympics Challenge with Mrs Romeril
On Wednesday 1 December, 12 students from Wynnum State School took up a challenge hosted by Wynnum State High School. These students participated in a STEM Olympic Challenge against Manly West State School. The activities required students to think flexibly, persist and to work interdependently in teams. The activities included – Earthquake, Egg drop, Robotics and Drones. All students showed great team work and sportsmanship during these activities. Wynnum State School Yellow team received 1st Place and our Green team received 3rd Place. It was overall a very successful and enjoyable day. Thank you, Wynnum State High School, for hosting and organising such a wonderful experience for our students.

Junior Swimming Carnival Results with Ms Richards
On Thursday December 2, Wynnum State School held its Junior Swimming Carnival for 2021. Thankfully the rain stayed away and we were able to have a successful day. Our Year 1 Wynnum Warriors were thrilled to have their very first swimming carnival. There were many smiling faces after their 25m Freestyle Races and Noodle Relay Races. Congratulations to Booangun, our overall house winner for 2021 in the Junior Swimming Carnival! A big congratulations to our age champions in Year 3, Noah Troester and Mei Arnett, fantastic result! Thank you to our future 2022 sport house captains in Year 5 who helped judge the races, to our staff who helped with supervision and scoring. Thank you also to parents and caregivers who attended the carnival in support of their child / children. Everyone brought a wonderful atmosphere to the carnival.
Thank you,

Music Tour
Despite less than favourable weather, Year 5 & 6 Students in the Senior Band & Choir set off on their Music Tour last Wednesday morning. First stop was Wynnum Plaza. It was hard to mask the excitement on students' faces as they walked through the Plaza carrying and setting up gear for the performance. Parents and strangers gathered around as students started to perform for anyone willing to stop and listen. Next stop was Malaleuca Retirement Village in Capalaba. The residents are always very thankful when our school is able to visit. Everyone's developed appetite was satisfied by a pizza party at Plantation Aquatic Centre after the performance. Returning home on the bus was a little tricky, due to flooding and road closures, but with some creative re-routing from our bus driver, students returned safely to school at 2:45pm. A thank you to all parents and families for your help and support this year in making the Choral and Instrumental Music program a success. All the best over the break.
2022 Instrumental Music
Year 3 students have received their letter of acceptance into the Instrumental Music Program for 2022. As always, there were more interested students than positions available, therefore some students have been placed on the waiting list. Thank you to all students who returned their letter of acceptance by the due date of Wednesday 8 December. If you have not, please email asap to Mr Morgan tdmor0@eq.edu.au.
Instrumental Music Students
Year 4 students, and anyone who have been hiring an instrument this year, returned their instrument for cleaning and repair after the Celebration Ceremony on Thursday this week. Students who are hiring a three year instrument will need to still return the instrument and will be reassigned an instrument next year. If your child borrowed a one year hire instrument than no doubt your teacher has been in consultation with you and your child regarding the need to purchase a new instrument for next year. For any information regarding this or help with brands or music shops please don't hesitate to contact Mr Morgan on tdmor0@eq.edu.au.
Congratuations to all the students in the Junior & Senior Choir as well as the Junior & Senior Bands for the excellent performances at the Celebration Ceremony.
