Principal's Message with Mr Ionn
Quandamooka Jarjums Camp
It was an absolute pleasure to attend the Quandamooka Jarjums Camp this week during the Principal Day visit on Minjerribah. The camp is designed to promote indigenous culture by engaging in a number of cultural activities, and has been running for 18 years, hosted by Dunwich State School. Wynnum Bajara captains Khian and Cooper attended the camp, making strong connections and networks to carry on through their next phase of learning and beyond.
I want to thank Mr Dave Smith for being our staff representative on the camp. The boys were so deadly in their participation in the combined dance at Cylinder Beach.
Opti-Minds Team
So proud of our Opti-Minds team at the recent State Finals. Although the team narrowly missed making the podium, the collective efforts, innovative thinking and commitment towards the spirit of Opti-Minds was clear to all. This Year 4 team is totally amazing, and we look forward to future endeavours. We are also very appreciative of Mrs Hind, for creating this opportunity and for her unwavering commitment to preparing the team and supporting them across both the Regional and State Finals!
School Opinion Survey Results
School Opinion Surveys canvass the views of parents/caregivers, students and school staff from every state school on what our schools do well and how they can improve. In 2024, our school engaged in three different confidential surveys for:
- Parents/Caregivers
- Students
- School staff
This year the survey sample was: 131 parents; 164 students and 54 staff members.
The Survey results have been released, and I wanted to share a snapshot of the most positive items and the least positive and what our next steps might look like to improve confidence in our ability to be the best we can be.
The data tells us that satisfaction rates from each grouping is an average high at 92% (Parents 89%; Students 93% and staff at 94%).
We’ll continue to analyse the feedback to gain greater input from the community and continue to seek a range of pathways to improve delivering information.
Student results indicate one the highest ratings we’ve ever received, with several ratings well above like schools and comparison with the state.
Parent responses inform us on how we can improve on our processes to gain information and deliver greater clarity through communications.
Staff responses of satisfaction were generally high (most in the 90 percentile). The small number of the low rating items have flagged localised issues that have instigated a number of practice changes.
Although the overall outcome was high satisfaction across the board, we will unpack all of the findings and work to strategise ways to improve the confidence of this community.
2025 Enrolment Confirmation
Enrolment numbers determine school funding, including how many teachers we have. This is why it is imperative that if your child/children are NOT going to be attending WSS in 2025, please notify the front office ASAP. Also, if you have a Preppie for next year, please let us know, so the enrolment process can be completed, and your little Wynnum Warrior can come along to the Prep Transition Sessions and Meet the Teacher sessions!

Please refer to the Term 4 calendar below. Please note that some events may be subject to change. We recommend regularly checking our newsletters and Facebook updates for any revisions.

P-2 Science with Mrs Crowe
Physical Science is definitely “on the move” now! Prep ‘Physicists’ began learning how scientists organise and record information using a table. Information collected from group observations of ‘Things that Move’ in the classroom, the playground and outside the school, were carefully written into each table with accompanying diagrams of the moving items. Enjoy these photos of our young scientists proudly displaying their recordings and diagrams!
Year 5 Leadership Forum
Our Year 5 students recently participated in a special Leadership Forum, where school captains from Wynnum State High and Brisbane Bayside College joined us to share their experiences as student leaders. The guests spoke about their leadership journeys, offering insights and advice to our students as they prepare for the upcoming leadership selection process for the 2025 Wynnum State School leaders.
Students had the opportunity to ask thoughtful questions about leadership, and the responses from the visiting captains were meaningful and inspiring. By the end of the forum, it was clear that many of our Year 5 students felt empowered and motivated to step up as future leaders of our school!
🌟 Opti-Minds State Finals Success! 🌟 Mrs Hind - Inclusion Support Teacher
Huge thanks to Vanessa and the P&C team, Mr Ionn, and Mrs Joan Pease for supporting our Year 4 students at the Opti-Minds State Finals! The weekend was filled with creativity and innovation, with our team showcasing their Carsical (a bike/car hybrid) at the Market Day. They earned an impressive 10/10 in teamwork and creativity during the "Language Literature" challenge! Though narrowly missing out on a podium finish, the team is already putting their ideas for sustainability into action 🙏 The future in is good hands 🌏♥️#FutureLeaders #OptiMinds #Teamwork #Innovation #ProudTeacher
