Principal's Message with Mr Ionn
Our Adventure Playground and Playwork Journey
After three terms, we are nearing the launch of our Adventure Play space. We will begin our Playwork journey in Term 4, building our collective learning during the term.
We are incredibly appreciative of our school parent Angus Gorrie, member of Outsiders Play Advocates and Playmakers network, who has provided many hours of professional learning, sourcing materials, rallying volunteers and constructing core structures for inspiration.
In the professional learning, we have recently focused on the support of teachers and how play supervision will be different for this purpose. Angus will be our mentor and model in our new ways of working. It is with the reassurance of having Angus’ support and the Playmakers Network that we confidently take this next step.
This work aligns with the notion of creating equity and excellence in all our learning settings. Through the school’s explicit improvement agenda of high expectations of academic achievement, engaging every student in learning, supporting wellbeing and celebrating culture and diversity, the commitment of incorporating ‘Playwork’ into our school narrative is an important marker in our improvement journey.
School Recognition for our Adopt a Police Officer
At our last assembly, we acknowledged our ‘soon to be’ official Adopt a Police Officer, Nathan. Nathan has already been part of our Wellbeing team and although he will be busy during Term 4, we wanted to start the process by adopting at the school level. We look forward to the official Qld Police Service ceremony next year.
Happy Holidays
I want to thank our Wynnum Warriors and our great staff for their hard work, dedication, and positivity throughout this term. Have a wonderful holiday, and I look forward to seeing you all back in Term 4, ready to embrace new opportunities and challenges.
2025 Enrolment Confirmation
Enrolment numbers determine school funding, including how many teachers we have. This is why it is imperative that if your child/children are NOT going to be attending WSS in 2025, please notify the front office ASAP. Also, if you have a Preppie for next year, please let us know, so the enrolment process can be completed, and your little Wynnum Warrior can come along to the Prep Transition Sessions and Meet the Teacher sessions!
Celebration Ceremony Invitation
R U OK? DAY
R U OK day, recognised annually, encourages us to check in with those around us, asking a simple yet powerful question: "Are you okay? R U OK Day is a great opportunity to have meaningful conversations with you child about mental health.
R U OK Day isn't just about a single day—it's focus is fostering ongoing conversations and building a supportive environment at home. By engaging in these discussions, you’re helping to create a space where your child feels valued and understood, reinforcing the idea that it’s always okay to ask for help.
R U OK Day is an opportunity to take the time to check in with your child and encourage them to do the same with their friends. Your support can make a significant difference in their mental health journey.
School Police Officer Message with Sergeant Nathan Vaughan
Having a Safety Plan:
A Safety Plan can be a useful tool for a young person in many different circumstances. Talking to a young person about what they should do if someone comes to the door of your home, when they are walking to school, and when they are out with their friends, is a helpful way of ensuring young people are prepared for several different scenarios. Informing the young people in your home of safe places to go if the need ever arises and people that are safe to approach if they require assistance can help empower and increase confidence in young people.
First of all, does your child know what “not safe” means? Does your child know what feelings or signs in their body might tell them that they are feeling unsafe? Can my child understand the reasons that safety plans need to be kept between a select few people? Are there any adults that my child feels are safe, but I do not view them as safe? Once these points have been established, try and make a safety plan with your child.
Can you manage to find a solution together where you both feel as though the plan can be useful and you both agree to it? Write it down together as a step-by-step list if needed. Can you practice this plan at home together to familiarise putting it in place? Make a list of 5 safe adults with your child and talk to them about contacting these people in an emergency, going down the list until they are able to access a safe adult for assistance.
Make sure that the plan is as easy and specific as possible. Continually check in, review, revise and remind about the safety plan every few weeks if the plan has not needed to be used. Attempt to help your child not to be fearful of needing, having or using a safety plan. Normalise this process where possible and try to help your child understand the reasons why this plan might be needed one day.

Library Matters with Mrs Sutton and the Library Team
Book Returns - Can I ask all families to continue to regularly return books by their due date. Those families who have notified us of lost library books for this term will be invoiced for the cost of the book. Accounting for all books throughout the school is a huge operation therefore we ask for your assistance in monitoring your child’s library books.
With holidays fast approaching don’t forget to connect with our Wynnum library for many special events to keep everyone entertained.
Just keep reading…
P-2 Science with Mrs Crowe
Prep meteorologists absolutely loved planning their ‘Weather Reports’ last week. Each little scientist wrote their weather word, drew an exact diagram of its symbol and represented what they would wear or do during that weather. Every Prep Strived for Accuracy as they carefully completed their plan. They also created their own ‘weather hat’ to wear home.
Science Week investigations of Moreton Bay were eagerly engaged in by students from all year levels. Shorebirds, turtles, mangroves and how to sustain our bay were eagerly explored!
‘Electricity Safety Week’ was an absolutely ELECTRIC time of investigation for our young scientists! Circuit kits provided very challenging problems to solve so as to make their fan fly or their car move! Look at these fantastic photos showing the concentration and exclamations of wonderment and awe when their circuit was complete!
Looking forward to Physical Sciences in Term Four. Happy School Holidays everyone!

2024 Years 4-6 Wellbeing Connection Afternoon Update
Over the last five weeks we have had the pleasure of hosting our Wellbeing Connection Afternoons. It has been an amazing opportunity for our students and staff to end the week with their chosen activities where they are learning new skills, interacting positively with their peers, challenging themselves and purely focussing on their Wellbeing. We have seen incredible Golf and Touch Football performances that could feature in the upcoming 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games. The tastiest treats being created in the kitchen that Manu would be impressed with. Artistic and creative skills where we may have in fact located the next Picasso. Our Bounce and Jungle students smiling ear to ear from their active afternoons and releasing all of those endorphins. Happy little Prep students smiling ear to ear from the support and care provided by our amazing seniors. Finally, the calmest of students learning and building knowledge on how to look after themselves. Thank you to all of our staff and students for valuing their Wellbeing and making the most of these experiences. We are so proud of everyone and can not wait for next year!
MKR – Kids in the Kitchen
In MKR students participate in cooking different foods such as mini pizza, sushi, scrolls, bean burritos and cheeseburger pasta. MKR students learn the skills to cook delicious and healthy, low-costs snacks and meals, as well as a range of other skills.
At the start of each lesson, students listen and watch Mrs Corten explain and demonstrate the recipe, before branching off and doing their own thing.
Students learn responsibility by cleaning up after ourselves and learning great listening skills. We are so grateful for this fun experience, especially in our last year of primary school.
