Principal's Message with Mr Ionn
Celebrating our School Cleaners
This week, we celebrate our Wynnum State School cleaners. On Monday 17 June, we recognised our cleaners on School Cleaners' Day, and celebrate their efforts and dedication to ensure the highest standard of health and hygiene by keeping our school clean. We know that if this vital part of our school environment is in good shape, then we can focus on teaching and learning. As we are wondering what to have for breakfast, or after the day has finished, our cleaning team are hard at work to limit the risk of infection and disease. And they do this work with great pride. Our warriors and staff rely on this work every day at school. On behalf of the whole school community, thank you.
Review Report
As mentioned previously, our school has received our review report. I submitted our full report at the last P&C Meeting, and I’m pleased to share the executive report with everyone this week.
The Executive Report has been added to this newsletter or can be downloaded from the school’s website.
School Annual Report 2023
The School Annual Report contains information for parents and community about our school’s journey last year, with a focus on student and school performance, with facts about historical school opinion data and attendance for example.
I encourage all community members to view the School Annual Report 2023 on our website. It can be accessed here:
Disco Feedback
Congratulations are in order to the disco organising team of the P&C for a great Term 2 disco. It was great to see so many families enjoying the night.
To ensure they capture all voices, and with a view of considerations for improvements for next year, the P&C have invited parents and students an opportunity to give feedback. Please find the links to ensure both parents and students give their input through the appropriate survey.
Thank you for your feedback.
We Made It!
The recent couple of weeks are a very busy time in our school. Whether our Warriors have been presenting their ‘passion’ at passion learning, trading at the Year 6 market day, learning circus skills in Year 4, performed and or received a Habits of the Mind Award at the Prep to Year 3 Celebrations of Learning, or been courageous to put their hand up for Wynnum Idol, or participated in a sports carnival, they’ve all given a commitment as a Wynnum Warrior to the best they can be. And I say Congratulations! I would also like to acknowledge all the staff members that have guided this success and of course our partners in the P&C and school community. It does take a village to raise a child.
We know that fatigue has been building, but we’ve made the end of a very busy and productive half of the year.
Please have a wonderful break and we’ll return with renewed energy to continue a great 2024.
Term 3 Parent-Teacher Interviews
In addition to providing academic reports, at least twice a year, schools offer parents and carers the opportunity to discuss their child’s achievement and progress. Our Term 3 Parent Teacher interviews for most classes will be held on Wednesday 24 July in the Auditorium. If your child is in 1LH, interviews will be held on Tuesday 23 July in the Front Office.
Bookings are open now and are made online via the SOBs booking system via this link -

Library Matters with Mrs Sutton and the Library Team
Congratulations to our five magnificent Year 6 students who competed in the annual Bayside Reader's Cup Competition, last Monday. Kate, Charlie, Mila, Clara and Evie, over a 10-week period worked interdependently to read five pre-determined novels in the lead up to the competition. Quizzing themselves against each other while learning valuable lessons in teamwork, determination and working outside their comfort zones. The results were very close, but I can report that our team made it into the top 10 for our region. We hope you continue to read widely and perhaps pursue the Readers’ Cup again in high school. Again, we thank Mrs Lakeman for adjudicating on the night and Ms Gibbons and WSS families for supporting and motivating these enthusiastic students. Well done all!
And yes…you might like to start pondering about what you might want to wear for Book Week 2024 in Term 3, Week 7. The theme this year is…
Just keep holiday reading…
(PS…don’t forget all the wonderful holiday happenings in our local Wynnum Library!!!)
P-2 Science and Technology with Mrs Crowe
Mrs Crowe has been busy collecting images and data for citizen science while on her holiday in WA. Here are a couple of images of her swimming with the whale sharks and some of the beautiful coral and fish along the Ningaloo Reef. Prep to Year Two scientists are in for a very big surprise when they come back in Term Three and especially for Science Week! This year’s theme is ‘Species Survival: More than just Sustainability’ and there is a special focus on the survival of marine species. Mrs Crowe has collected many resources and videos from Ningaloo Reef, and other areas along the Coral Coast, to share and inspire our young
Sports Report with Mr. Blair - PE Teacher
Thank you to everyone who came along to our junior and senior carnivals this year. It was great talking to some families on the day and even better hearing the combined cheering and encouragement for our Wynnum Warriors. There were a lot of smiles and high fives at our carnivals and our oval was filled with Orange, Teal and Blue. Our photos capture our Warriors across all the whole variety of activities.
These carnivals couldn’t have happened without the team effort of our classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, groundskeeper Mr Eric, cleaners, Admin team members and our leadership team. I'd like to thank everyone who supported our students and helped them form lasting memories of their primary school days.
Students were beaming for cameras, and some were lucky enough to win ribbons... but I was super proud of every single student who went out and did their best- earning house points towards the Hadfield Cup. The winning house of our junior sports carnival was announced on Wednesday's assembly: Mirrigimpa. Pictured are our House captains Quinton and Clara holding aloft the junior sports carnival trophy. The winning house for our senior sports carnival will be announced at our Term 3 Week 1 Whole School Assembly. A special thanks to all our house captains: Harrison, Azalea, Ava, Clara, Braxton, and Quinton. They have been a great help behind the scenes at both carnivals and worked on and performed their NEW war cries with much gusto. Unfortunately, we ran out of time for our teacher vs house captains race at the carnival, but we will postpone to after the holidays during a lunchtime (to give us teachers some more time to train too)!
It is a privilege to be the physical education teacher again at these carnivals and I am very proud of all the practice and work students had put in during their PE lessons, culminating in these two events and displayed to our Wynnum community.
P.S Go Maroons!!
Year 4 Celebration of Learning
Year 4 students recently celebrated their annual Celebration of Learning with an exciting showcase of their creative designs. Proudly presenting their projects to families, the students demonstrated their innovative ideas and newfound knowledge about sustainability. The event was a delightful experience for all, filled with fun and learning. Families were impressed, making the day a memorable success for everyone involved.
Year 4 Flipside Circus Excursion
On Tuesday, our Year 4 students enjoyed an exciting excursion to Flipside Circus. It was filled with juggling, aerial acrobatics, and gymnastics. They practiced team building as they cheered each other on and completed various challenges. In the aerial acrobatics’ session, students learned the importance of responsible risk-taking while mastering new moves under expert guidance. It was a day of fun and valuable skill-building, leaving everyone with unforgettable memories.
Year 6 Economics and Business - Market Day
During our Term 3 Economics and Business unit, Year 6 students learnt to interpret, organise and represent data to develop a business to be run at a Year 6 Market Day. Students learnt to identify the decisions and trade-offs required as a business owner and as a consumer of goods and services.
In Week 10, students set up their businesses and experienced what it is like to be a consumer and a producer. Groups either made and sold their own goods or provided a service.
Market Day created an exciting event to finish the semester where lots of fun was held by all.
