Message from our Principal Mr Fehlhaber
Term Wrap-Up Message
The last week of Term 3 has arrived and the ten weeks of learning and celebrations have gone in flash. I would like to extend my thanks to the Wynnum State School community for your support in ensuring the best possible learning opportunities for our students.
In my last newsletter I spoke of the importance of elevating student voice as a critical way to build a strong sense of community. This is embodied at Wynnum through our strong Year 6 student leaders in the way they lead our whole school parades and celebrations. Our younger students watch this level of leadership and not only aspire to do this work, but also to continue using their voices to maintain the positive culture at their school.
I have had the pleasure of spending time in classrooms and Professional Learning Team meetings with teachers and students. This time is important for me to support teachers in understanding what students are learning, how they are going and what will be the next steps in ensuring their success.
Our Business Manager Jasmine recently celebrated her wedding with fiancé Anthony. We hope they had a wonderful day and wish them a lifetime of happiness together

Student Attendance
In continuing the discussion around the importance of student attendance, it is important to celebrate our successes. In the year-to-date, over 42% of students have attended school between 95-100% of the time with another 27% between 90-95%. These students are giving themselves the best possible opportunity to reach their learning potential. If you have any concerns regarding your child’s attendance, please contact the school.

Sporting Success
We have had some of our Wynnum Warriors celebrating success in their chosen sports in recent weeks.
Congratulations to Azaya P whose team today won the FQ1 U12 Super league futsal competition and to Maddox A who played in the Metropolitan East U12s touch football team which won the QLD touch championship in Roma.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Focus Weeks 9 & 10
We are respectful when we care for others and their property 🌟 As we wrap up the term, our focus turns to kindness and consideration. This means using kind words, treating classmates with compassion, and being mindful not to damage or misuse things that belong to others or the school 💛🌱🖍️

P-3 Science with Mrs Crowe
‘Electricity Safety Week’ was an ELECTRIC time of investigation for our young scientists! All classes learned about safety around electric appliances and emergency situations and worked together in small groups to make a bulb light up. They then had to work out how to add a switch into their circuit to turn their light on and off. Very happy faces when the challenge was solved!

Year Two classes finished this term’s “Water Works” scientific study of our Earth’s precious resource by visiting Moreton Bay Environmental Centre (MBEEC) for the “Go with the Flow” program.
Our young aquatic scientists engaged in discovering water creatures from Wynnum Creek; explored the ‘MBEEC Pond’ and the ‘Healthy/Unhealthy Aquarium’ for living things; discussed waste decomposition and how to preserve our waterways; and studied the local water course observing channels, swales and drains on a ‘Water Walk’. This visit to MBEEC was the perfect way to consolidate the term science learning and reinforce how important it is to care for our local environment.
Term Four will be scientific study of Physical Sciences. Enjoy your school holidays everyone!

Sports Report with Mr. Blair
Cooper O recently competed in the MET East 800m and did extremely well finishing second in the race. This means Cooper has qualified to compete in State championships! Congratulations to Cooper for this outstanding achievement.
As Term 3 wraps up, it is time to start thinking again about swimming! A timetable will be released shortly outlining what days classes will swim on. The focus in Term 4 is preparing students for the swimming carnivals, learning different swim strokes.

Logan Maths Team Challenge👀
On Wednesday, 10th September, ten enthusiastic Year 5 and 6 students proudly represented Wynnum SS at the annual Logan Schools Maths Challenge, held at Kingston SS.
Our students have been working hard all term, practising in class and even giving up their lunch breaks to prepare for this brain-stretching event. The competition was made up of two exciting rounds: the first involved 20 challenging questions to be solved as a team in just 45 minutes, while the second was a fast-paced relay, where pairs of students tackled one question at a time.
With 27 teams competing on the day, both Wynnum SS teams achieved outstanding results, finishing 5th and 6th overall. Only six teams managed to score over 100 points and both of ours were among them!
A huge congratulations to our clever mathematicians for their dedication, teamwork, and fantastic results.

Years 4-6 Wellbeing Connection Afternoons✨
Over the last five weeks we have had the pleasure of hosting our Wellbeing Connection Afternoons. It has been an amazing opportunity for our students and staff to end the week with their chosen activities where they are learning new skills, interacting positively with their peers, challenging themselves and purely focussing on their wellbeing. We have seen incredible Golf, Futsal, Archery and Touch Football performances that could feature in the upcoming 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games. Artistic and creative skills, where we may have in fact located the next Picasso and Lego movie makers. Our Bounce and Jungle students return smiling from ear to ear from their active afternoons releasing all of those endorphins. Finally, the calmest of students learning and building knowledge on how to look after themselves or spending their afternoons nestled away in Book Club. You can even check out the Yarn Bombers knitting and crocheting efforts around the trees at the front entry! Thank you to all of our staff and students for valuing their wellbeing and making the most of these experiences. We are so proud of everyone and cannot wait for next year!
Bounce Update
Our Year 5 and 6 students have been leaping into Friday afternoons with energy and enthusiasm at Bounce! From slam dunks to flips, twists, tumbles, and endless bounces, the students have enjoyed the chance to challenge themselves while having fun. Not only have they sharpened their trampolining skills, but they’ve also built confidence, teamwork, and had plenty of laughter along the way.

Guidance Officer Message with Nathaly Manning
As Term 3 draws to a close, I’d like to congratulate our students, staff, and families on another term of learning, growth, and achievement. It’s been wonderful to see the effort, resilience, and progress in so many areas – academic, social, and emotional. Every step forward, big or small, is worth celebrating.
The upcoming holidays are the perfect time to pause, rest, and reconnect with the people who matter most. Taking a break helps us recharge so we’re ready for the excitement of Term 4. While holidays are often filled with fun and relaxation, there may also be moments when we don’t quite feel ourselves. If that happens, it’s important to remember that support is always close at hand – whether through trusted family and friends, or the services listed below.

Looking ahead, Term 4 is always a lively and rewarding time – packed with activities, celebrations, and preparation for the next step in our collective and individual journeys. Let’s enjoy the last term of the year and make it one to remember.
Wishing you all a safe, restful, and happy holiday break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for Term 4.
Take care.

This special feature will be published in our school newsletter, giving Caitlin the opportunity to showcase her creativity and share her writing with our school community.
Below is Caitlin’s very first column. We hope you enjoy her wonderful creativity!
